A total clearance of 4500 first-cross ewes was achieved during the annual summer sale in Narrandera held last Tuesday.
The yarding consisted of very well grown and presented young ewes, with many repeat buyers seeking to add to their prime lamb producing flocks.
Elders, Narrandera livestock agent, Dom O’Mahoney complimented vendors on the presentation of their sheep, considering the dry season experienced across the Riverina.
“I was very pleased with the outcome of the sale, which once again proves that the Narrandera first-cross ewe sale continues to grow in stature,” he said.
Sale summary: Autumn 2017 drop ewes sold to $280, with most sales between $230 and $280, while one and half year ewes sold to $254 with most sales achieved between $190 and $254.
The top price at $280 was paid for the 213 March/April 2017 drop ewes by the Kember family, “Gleneith”, Ganmain.
They are regular vendors at this sale and their October-shorn ewes were sired by Gleneith Super Borders out of station-bred Merino ewes.
P. W and K. M Little, Grong Grong sold 284 March/April 2017 drop ewe lambs and September-shorn for $278 while the Rava family, from Grong Grong sold 210 April/May 2017 drop ewe lambs and December-shorn for $242.
The Durnan family, Frying Pan Creek Pastoral, Narrandera sold 1100 March/April 2017 drop ewe lambs and October-shorn for an average of $232, while G. C and J Morris, “Warravale”, Narrandera also sold 260 March/April 2017 drop ewe lambs for $232.
The Barnes family “Nelleona”, Hay sold 264 ewes, May/June 2017 drop, November-shorn and by Nelleona BL rams out of Woodpark Poll Merino ewes for $202, with L Hornbuckle, Narrandera selling 104 September/October 2017 drop ewe lambs, sired by Nelleona BL rams out of Wyvern Station- bred Merino ewes for $178.
There was a strong contingent of local buyers with most sheep going to new homes within a 100km radius of the sale.
