Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock reach 556c at Toowoomba
There was strong demand at Toowoomba for light weight young cattle returning to the paddock.
Numbers remained virtually unchanged at 422 head at the Toowoomba cattle sale, and included in the line-up were 129 head of young light weight cattle sold open auction. The usual trade and feeder buyers were in attendance and operating along with some additional local and interstate restockers.
Light weight young cattle returning to the paddock continued to experience strong support for the quality penned. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market improved in price, and this trend continued on the heavy weights to feed. The small selection of cows struggled to maintain a firm trend.
Yearling steers under 200kg with show ring potential made to an isolated 970c, and the heifer portion 870c/kg. The remainder of the light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged from 510c to 565c with sales to 664c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 489c to 501c with sales to 522c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 477.2c to average 445c, with the occasional sale to the trade at 421c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock or background averaged from 460c to 511c and sold to 556c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 450c to 454c/kg.
Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 244c/kg. A handful of good heavy weight cows made to 283c to average 282c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 311c/kg. The 129 head sold open auction averaged $728 with the male portion reaching $870/head and the heifers making to $750/head. Cows and calves made to $2,900/unit.
