Charbray heifers reach top of 501c/$1560 at Gympie

There were 2306 cattle yarded at Gympie on Monday.

A good quality yarding of 2306 cattle at Sullivan Livestock's Gympie cattle sale on Monday saw the market remain firm for all descriptions.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubberra, Booubyjan, Windera, Goomeri, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Tiaro, Thinoomba, Gunalda, Maleny, Conondale, Eumundi and all local areas.

Chabray steers from Steve Bury, Mundubberra, sold for 450c/kg ($2212 and $2102). Wendy Herrod, Goomboorian, sold Charbray steers for 452c ($2014 and $1981) and 454c ($1795). Droughtmaster steers from Elizabeth Pretorius sold for 444c ($2265). Quality Santa steers from Doug Sallaway sold for 446c to return $2082 and $1976.

Bill Gair, Gootchie, sold Droughtmaster steers for 452c ($1890 and $1884) and Angus steers for 450c ($1944 and $1935). Brangus steers from Wilrose Pty Ltd, Netherby, sold for 458c ($2050, $1985). Droughtmaster cross steers from Ben Bambling, Miva sold for 446c ($2055 and $2019) and 454c ($2066 and $1995). Limousin cross steers from Ian and Sharon Brown made 456c to return $1853.

Droughtmaster cross steers from the Gartshore family, Langshaw, sold for 474c ($1544). Bazadaise cross steers from K and B Lacey, Wonga, made 484c ($1479). Quality Ultrablack weaner steers from Wilrose Pty Ltd made 532c ($1565 and $1453 and $1439). Weaner steers generally sold from 490c to 552c pending quality and weight.

Quality Angus cross heifers from Vestabank Pty Ltd, Kilkivan, sold for 446c to return $1789. Limousin cross heifers from Fred Roberts, Sandy Creek, sold for 450c ($1626), while the younger sisters sold for 472c ($1138). Quality F1 Charbray heifers from Maree Duncombe, Conondale, made 501c to return $1560 and $1455. Ultrablack weaner heifers from Wilrose Pty Ltd sold for 450c ($1337 and $1278) and 458c ($1166). Light weaner heifers to restockers sold generally from 460c to 565c. Weaner heifers to processors sold from 410c to 462c.

Cows and calves topped at $2800 for Charbray cows and calves from C Culverhouse, Maleny. Most cows and calves sold from $1900 to $2275.
