Jamie McConachie, Charles Stewart, said it was a better quality yarding than last month.
"It was more like a feature sale, and consequently we were happy with the results we achieved, particularly on the heavy steers, at the start, then going down into the steer weaners," Mr McConachie said.
"Lesser type steers were back a long way, very quickly, but then it rebounded, when we came back into quality and breeding.
"It was chalk and cheese, when it came to quality cattle."
South Australia's Creek Livestock was particularly active on the first lanes of cattle.
Heavy heifers, suitable for feed, sold particularly well.
"Where it came unstuck was on heifers not suitable to feed on, or breed from, they got very tough going."
Cows and calves sold to par, while it was pleasing to see joined heifers going for $1500.
"I thought that was outstanding, for cattle that were only two years old, not two and a half years, not big cattle, sold to par again."
He said agents were concerned about the cross-bred portion of the sale, but were pleasantly surprised.
"HF Richardson and several others kept the floor in the crossbreds, we were quite nervous about them, but they sold as well as anything."
Matt Nelson, Charles Stewart, said the feedlotters were very strong on the better, heavier type cattle.
"They were making three dollars, and a little bit more, a kilogram, those feeder type cattle sold very well," Mr Nelson.
"Restockers were paying up to $3.50/kilogram for the really good weaner cattle, the top end sold very well."
He said heifers with weight were sought by feedlots, but once under 300kg, the price eased.
"Most of the competition came from local buyers, with some from Camperdown and Warrnambool," he said.
"We had a good sale last month, on quality, they could have been a little bit stronger today."
"Wider heifers were a bit harder to sell, the competion on them was not as strong."
Shelby Howard, Charles Stewart Dove, Colac, said the quality was a lot better than previous sales.
"We are getting into our weaner cattle, a few early ones came in," Mr Howard said.
"We did see a good run of older, heavier, cattle which sold to high demand from various feedlots and local clients."
Mr Howard said even the cross-breds were of high quality, "fresh over the top, and three quarters done.
"Due to the season, we have had a pretty good run of cattle come through, with quite substantial weight on them," he said
