OVER the past 40 years Te Pari has grown from a smallish operation producing cattle and sheep handling products on New Zealand's north island to one of international renown.

While its products are sold here and abroad, Te Pari's obligation to quality, safety and service support is stronger than ever and matched by the accuracy, efficiency and ease of use consumers find in its products.

The Oamaru, NZ-based Te Pari produces headbails, crushes, auto drafters and yards for cattle handling and handlers, jetters and auto drafters for sheep - and they've relieved producers of a lot of the drudgery, especially when it comes to drafting livestock.

"We are committed to providing a complete stock handling solution that is safe, simple and efficient for producers," Te Pari spokesman Jeremy Blampied said.

James Almond, Lancefield, an agronomist by training and sheep producer by choice, finds enormous benefits in Te Pari machines deployed on his 120 hectare farm.

"One of my clients had a Te Pari machine and I was looking at sheep handler and the one that stood out for me was Te Pari for the ease of use, how strong it was because it needed to be strong to stand up to the Aussie White ewes as they can be quite hard on people and equipment," Mr Almond said.

"We run a fairly intensive operation and the value of Te Pari is that we can be accurate on our weighing and when we are selling lambs to abattoirs or through Auctions Plus the stock agents can be assured of what we've got.

"The T30 scales are fantastic to use especially with the cordless pad that comes with it. It's wireless and it's strong.

"The Handler is fantastic, especially when the sheep get used to running through a machine.

"We draft our ewes into two separate groups - 45kg and above and then lighter ewes - and then we can condition score the ewes through that as well.

"The Te Pari machine with the remote is a beauty, especially when you're drafting. You can clamp on a ewe, dagg that ewe, draft it off if it needs veterinary assistance."

Victorian producer Colin Goldsworthy, who runs a herd of Angus cows and calves alongside sheep and prime lamb on a block in the south-west of the state, credits Te Pari products with labour savings while adding joy to some farming tasks.

"It operates very quietly, fitted into our shed very nicely and cuts down labour.

"You don't need to have heaps of people here staffing the machine and it's not a stressful environment. You can do it without a dog and it makes it a quite enjoyable experience to handle sheep," he said.

Similarly, the Lyons family, breeders of a self-replacing composite maternal flock on the 774 hectare Dundas Park near Hamilton, like the practicality of Te Pari products.

Spokesman Tom Lyons likes how an operator can work from either side of the machine and appreciates the fourth draft gate.

"The novelty of using a manual weigh crate wears off after about 10 lambs," he said.

"We needed to be able to work from both sides of the machine. We work on the inside for drafting and crutching on the other side."

Cattle producers are also enthusiastic about Te Pari products, according to Mr Blampied.

Grassmere-based producer Hugh McEachern, who runs between 700-800 Angus cattle on Injemira overhauled his yards a year ago and continues to sing its praises.

"With our new system it is a one person job and couldn't be easier," Mr McEachern said.

"I got the yards, the Titan crush with a three-way draft, calf reducer and a loading ramp and it all works well together.

"The safety in the yards and quietness of the crush as well as the wide catwalk are great (and) I can close the crush with one finger it is that easy."

Te Pari designers work with farmers around the globe to produce models and systems to suit every operation.

Te Pari is committed to designing and manufacturing innovative stock handling equipment.

With a number of staff in Australia, Te Pari can then back their products with quality customer support and service.
